Afrocenchix Limited

Afrocenchix was founded in 2008 when the Racheal and Jocelyn decided to end their ‘endless quest’ for the perfect product by creating it themselves. Afrocenchix is a sustainable and ethical business which was founded to create a product which was ‘kind to people and the planet.’

They created environmentally friendly hair care products for tightly coiled and curly hair. They are able to be sustainable by using glass bottles and recycled/recyclable plastics where possible and the postal packing they use is compostable. It is not only their packaging which has consideration for the planet but it is also the contents of the products they create. They do not use microplastics or endocrine disruptors and they use the highest possible quality naturally derived raw materials.

BDB Pitmans were initially introduced to Rachael by UCL; one of the first university start-ups BDB Pitmans began assisting with. Although the initial conversations between Rachael and BDB Pitmans were regarding a co-working incubator the conversations soon began for Rachael’s own start-up, Afrocenchix.

Awards and investors

Throughout the years Afrocenchix has won multiple awards. These awards include the Ethical and Sustainable Business Innovation from the University of Birmingham in 2010 and the Bright Ideas Award from UCL in London in 2015. Following this in 2018 they were awarded the BBFA Best Natural Hair Brand 2018 and were able to raise funding from angel investors.

BDB Pitmans LLP were instructed to assist with this investment which was the beginning of the work we have undertaken for them.

How did we help?

We have been instructed to act for Afrocenchix across an array of matter. The first being in 2018 in relation to the initial equity financing of the Afrocenchix. The investment opportunity was held to be an attractive opportunity by many high net worth individuals and sophisticated investors.

Following our initial matter, we have worked alongside Afrocenchix throughout its growth including a seed funding round with Impact X as the leading investor in 2021.

To add to this, we have assisted them with some employment matters and we act as Company Secretary, whereby we assist the team with all matters relating to the requirements and duties of a company as per the regulations imposed by company law.

In addition we help Afrocenchix with any other ad hoc legal queries which arise.

BDB Pitmans look forward to working alongside Afrocenchix as it continues to grow as an emerging and innovative company with their sector.
