Clean Air

Air pollution is one of the biggest threats to public health in the UK. The government has already committed more than £3.5 billion to tackle poor air quality through cleaner road transport and is working closely with local authorities and Local Economic Partnerships to make progress.

A Clean Air Zone is an area where targeted action is taken to improve air quality, in particular by discouraging the most polluting vehicles from entering the zone. No vehicle is banned in the zone, but those which do not have clean enough engines may have to pay a daily charge if they travel within the area.

Building Better

Clean Air Zones aim to address all sources of pollution, including nitrogen dioxide and reduce public exposure to them using a range of measures tailored to the particular location.

Within a Clean Air Zone there is also a specific focus on measures to accelerate the transition to a low emission economy. This will ensure improvements are ongoing and sustainable, support future development and decouple local growth from air pollution.

How did we help?

We are the UK’s leading law firm for clean air zones and related projects including road user charging and work place parking levies. We currently work with a number of local authorities across the country to deliver clean air zones and similar initiatives.
