UK Employment law

All international businesses operating in the United Kingdom who hire staff will be subject to local UK employment laws. The employment team at BDB Pitmans can advise you on all aspects of how to deal with your UK workforce.

UK Employment law

What we do:

The employment team at BDB Pitmans can advise you on all aspects of how to operate a workforce in England & Wales. We can also assist and support international businesses, which may use the UK as a business operating ‘springboard’, with the tasks of sourcing good and reliable employment law advice and support within Scotland, Northern Ireland and in the European Union countries.

We work with employment law specialists across most EU country jurisdictions through our membership of the Lexwork International and InterAct legal networks of independent law firms.

  • Our employment team supports UK businesses to avoid the pitfalls of employment law, so as to minimise the risk of being challenged in the Employment Tribunal in the first place or to ensure, where a challenge may be brought, that our clients are in the best possible place successfully to defend Tribunal claims.
  • We also advise on all aspects of contractual negotiations relating to employment contracts, as well as what employment policies businesses might need in order to operate their workplaces lawfully and fairly.
  • We advise on labour relations more broadly where industries are or may be unionised, and
  • We also support businesses when negotiating exit agreements. Legally binding settlement agreements (which need to be in a prescribed legal form) are a common feature of employment relationships with senior staff, and are frequently used to avoid potential public disputes and to protect the reputation of both the departing employee as well as the business in which they are employed.
