Whether you already have a family office, or you are planning to establish one, we provide deep expertise across every area of your operation and vision. Many families are longstanding clients of the firm and have valued our advice across the generations. We work collaboratively with the family’s existing advisers.

We understand that family wealth is a complex type of wealth which requires a dedicated vehicle to support the bespoke and personal requirements of each family.  These requirements may include the safeguarding of the privacy, reputation and values of the business but balanced with the protection of the wealth for future generations and the furthering of tailored philanthropic objectives.

We understand the evolution of  the family office and that as family wealth increases the business needs evolve. This evolution can very generally be seen as a transition from a founder’s simple, informal office into a complex, full-service operating business. Conversely, the family office could be scaled down if the family’s needs become less complex.

The BDB Pitmans Family Office Team includes lawyers from across the firm to offer integrated and bespoke advice and solutions. It includes expertise from our Private Client, Corporate, Real Estate, Employment, Family and Dispute Resolution team. We work closely together to  support all elements of the Family Office Structure. This includes:-

  • Governance and regulation– advising on the formulation of complex governance structures, including those for ownership and decision-making.
  • Succession – advising how best to protect the future of the busines for future generations through tax structures or otherwise.
  • Growth of the business – advising on the distribution of family assets and investments (often including a family business) whether acquiring large companies and real estate or alternative assets.
  • Values and Vision – advising on the furthering of families core objectives and philanthropic projects.
  • Operational issues and Human Resources – support with employment challenges from staffing, immigration and international moves.
  • Family – support and advise relating to pre-nuptial agreements through to divorce and contact arrangements, and complex international probates.
  • Disputes – advice relating to private or corporate disputes.

We understand that families are increasingly international so can support the business via our network. Our expertise covers UK families and international families and institutions particularly in the US, Middle East. We understand the important cultural issues in the jurisdictions in which our clients operate and have a breadth of experience on creating the appropriate family wealth structure.

We are a proud approved member of the Global Family Office Community
