The 10,000 Able Interns programme: Meet Grace

Where did you first hear about the 10,000 Black / Able Interns Programme and what interested you?
I was sent an email by my university about the programme, and I thought it would be a good opportunity for me to obtain some experience in an area that I am interested in but do not study.
What about BDB Pitmans appealed to you before you accepted your internship?
The fact that BDB Pitmans is very inclusive and that respecting and valuing others are at the firm’s core. I also liked the fact that the firm had many different departments, offering me a broad experience in law, but that it was still small enough for there to be a sense of community within the firm.
What have you enjoyed most about your internship so far?
I have particularly enjoyed being set a range of tasks to complete both individually and within a group. I have also liked being able to shadow meetings and speak to others about their pathways to a career in law.
What do you hope to achieve by the end of your placement?
Greater certainty about whether law is the right career for me. If it is the right career for me, I also want to better understand what I need to do in the future to become a qualified lawyer.
How would you describe your first experiences of working in the legal sector?
Interesting because there has always been something new to do, but also rewarding because you feel pleased whenever you complete a task correctly. Equally, it has been incredibly informative, as it has given me a great insight into what being a lawyer really involves.
