The 10,000 Black Interns Programme: 1 year on

You joined BDB Pitmans after the 2022 Intern programme. How would you describe your first year at the firm?
My first year at the firm has been very exciting. I have been able to expand my knowledge of my profession and get involved with work in various fields of HR here at the firm. I have enjoyed working with the best team ever, who have been so supportive of my growth and have made coming to work a breeze.
What is your proudest professional achievement since joining BDB Pitmans?
I am currently shadowing the payroll process, which is both exciting and frightening in the same breath because of how many people it impacts. I never thought I’d be doing this so early in my career.
If you were to describe our company culture in three words, what would they be?
Supportive, Welcoming, Transparent
You will now become a mentor to the newest batch of interns. What factors played into your decision to want to mentor?
Being in the exact same position a year ago, I could relate to their experience as Interns, and based on that commonality, I thought there may be a lot they could gain from my experience and outlook. I am keen on representation and support, and seeing people work hard for such an opportunity makes me want to do what I can to support that growth.
Do you have any advice for this year’s interns?
Never stop learning. Get to know the team. Listen actively and share your constructive opinion.
