BDB Pitmans have advised internationally renowned opera company, the Royal Opera House, on legal matters relating to the creation of the Royal Opera House Stream. Launched this month, this new online streaming service is designed to offer customers exclusive access to classic recordings taken from The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera archives, as well as behind-the-scenes features, trailers, talks and insights.

Specialising in opera, ballet and the performing arts, its reputation for excellence has made the Royal Opera House one of the foremost centres of its kind in the world. Based in the iconic Covent Garden historic location along with The Royal Ballet, The Royal Opera House – under the direction of Antonio Pappano – is renowned both for its outstanding performances of traditional opera as well as for commissioning new works by today’s leading opera composers, including as Harrison Birtwistle, Mark-Anthony Turnage and Thomas Adès. This bespoke streaming service will enable fans to enjoy back-stage footage, masterclasses and full-length performances at home using a desktop, laptop or Smart TV or on a mobile.

Led by commercial and IP partner, Dennis Lee, the project marked the latest in a long line of cutting edge technology matters which the team have brought to a successful conclusion. With offices in three of the UK’s leading tech hubs, the firm’s dedicated team is on hand to provide specialist expertise to a range of companies and individuals throughout the retail, manufacturing, technology, creative, IT and entertainment sectors.

Dennis Lee, corporate partner at BDB Pitmans commented:

“We were delighted to advise the in-house team at ROH on the legal side of the development of this tailored streaming service. It is perfectly suited to the needs of their wide range of audience and we have no doubt it will prove very popular.”

Leah Hurst, Head of Legal and Business Affairs, concluded:

“We are proud to be able to offer seasoned theatregoers and those new to the arts the opportunity to enjoy the ROH’s extensive catalogue. We would like to thank BDB Pitmans for its extensive legal knowledge and exemplary client service.”
