BDB Pitmans ranked in the Chambers High Net Worth 2022 guide
Chambers High Net Worth ranks the leading lawyers and law firms for international private wealth and is based on in-depth analysis carried out by a dedicated team of experienced researchers.
In the 2022 edition of the guide, BDB Pitmans has once again been ranked in the following categories:
- Private wealth law (London – Firms);
- Private wealth law (Reading and surrounds); and
- Real estate: High value residential (London – Firms).
Eight partners are also recognised as notable practitioners:
Private wealth law (London)
Jonathan Colclough is highlighted for his expertise in cross-border matters, particularly those with a connection to South Africa. A source comments: ‘Jonathan has a strong grasp of the complex issues affecting international ultra high net worth clients.’
Helen Ratcliffe ‘is extremely knowledgeable and has a very high level of expertise in her area,’ states a source. She advises a range of domestic and international clients on various private wealth matters.
Judith Millar is ‘is absolutely brilliant at leading clients in every aspect. She always makes you feel that you are in very safe hands,’ states an interviewee. ‘She is very good at handling delicate situations, like complex family relationships, complicated tax issues and legal matters that need dealing with sensitively. She just really knows how to manage those situations. She is excellent,’ a source remarks.

Sheilagh Magee advises on a range of matters including estate administration. A source enthuses: ‘Sheilagh has a wealth of experience. She is always very practical and passionate about helping clients.’ Another interviewee says: ‘Sheilagh is brilliant with clients and is able to offer solutions to all needs.’
Senior associate Alexander Morgan is also listed as an ‘associate to watch’. A source explains: ‘Alex is always great to work with. He is an upcoming leader. He comes up with some intriguing and innovative solutions to assist clients with meeting their objectives.’ Another interviewee notes: ‘He is professional and knowledgeable.’
Real estate: High value residential (London)
Hema Anand regularly acts for clients on high-value residential property acquisitions and sales. She also handles enfranchisement matters.
John Stephenson ‘has a vast amount of knowledge in the residential property world and has been here for a very long time,’ says a market commentator. He is particularly respected by industry figures for his expertise in leasehold enfranchisement and lease extension matters.
Tristan Ward ‘appears on big transactions’ and ‘is well known in the London property market,’ according to commentators. He leads the firm’s landed estates and agriculture team and is an expert on rural property matters.
Private wealth disputes – East Anglia
In addition, Lucinda Brown is listed as a notable practitioner for private wealth disputes. She is a well-respected litigator who handles inheritance and will challenges, as well as trust disputes. ‘She is a very good contentious trust and probate lawyer,’ says a fellow litigator, who adds that ‘she does a first-rate job for clients.’
