The Chambers High Net Worth guide ranks the top lawyers and law firms for international private wealth management work and related specialisms and is based on in-depth market analysis carried out by Chambers’ researchers.

In the 2021 edition of the guide, BDB Pitmans is ranked in the following areas:

  • Private wealth law (London – Firms);
  • Private wealth law (Reading and surrounds); and
  • Real estate: High value residential (UK)

The following eight partners are also recognised as notable practitioners:

Private wealth law (London)

Helen Ratcliffe ‘is a lovely person. She really cares about the clients and she is extremely cooperative,’ says one interviewee, and another comments, ‘she is very good. She has good judgement, she is very intellectual and really easy to work with.’

Jonathan Colclough ‘has a lot of experience of cross-border work. He is very good at explaining how the complicated rules work and gives practical solutions.’

Judith Millar is ‘a very good lawyer,’ according to a source, who adds, ‘she is very good at communicating very difficult concepts to clients, she is very thorough and she is very intelligent.’

Private wealth law (Reading and surrounds)

Sheilagh Magee ‘handles sensitive topics and offers my clients reassurance. She responds to requests for information in a timely manner and I always get excellent feedback.’ Another source adds, ‘she has very good empathy with people and is very hands-on with cases.’

Real estate: High value residential

Hema Anand ‘is very sensible and very lovely to work with – she is pragmatic and commercial,’ says a peer. Another describes her as ‘pragmatic, straightforward and good with her clients.’

John Stephenson ‘has a wealth of experience and is always on hand to provide assistance and advice,’ says a source. One market insider describes him as ‘excellent,’ explaining, ‘he thinks outside the box and provides solutions made for the specific customer, and clearly cares about the client.’

Tristan Ward ‘is one of the best in the market for country estates,’ enthuses one buying agent. Another interviewee says he is ‘excellent on the sale of agricultural property,’ explaining, ‘he is brilliant and he always pays attention to the detail.’

Private wealth disputes, East Anglia

In addition, Lucinda Brown is listed as a notable practitioner for private wealth disputes. ‘She is pragmatic and sensible,’ says one source, and another notes: ‘She really knows what she’s doing.’
