Changes to the basic DBS check procedure are now being implemented.
Until now, any application for a basic disclosure certificate has, in practice, been dealt with by Disclosure Scotland. As of this month, the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) will take over the basic disclosure service and applicants will now need to apply to the DBS directly. There is a new online application form where applicants can track the progress of their basic check.
The government website sets out an overview of the new information, including applying through a Responsible Organisation and how to set up a DBS online account. It seems that this new process should reduce the waiting time for DBS certificates from 8 weeks to 14 days which can only be a good thing!
