It has been claimed that the legal process to build a new runway at Heathrow could significantly delay the project and the scale of opposition to the plan could make the intended timetable undeliverable.

Angus Walker, partner in BDB’s planning and infrastructure team, comments in The Times that it is a:

‘Long way to go until a spade goes into the ground. Challenges sometimes go on for over a year. If that happens twice that would be a two-year delay. We may be looking at 2027, if not longer, before we get an opening date.’
