IP owners allowed more international flexibility in Hague Agreement ratification

Post-Brexit, creators will still be able to use the ‘one-stop shop’ method of the Hague system to register designs internationally.
The Hague system allows applicants to make one application to the World Intellectual Property Office to protect their designs in up to 92 countries.
The UK is currently part of the system through its EU membership but has now ratified the agreement and will be a signatory as of 13 June 2018, meaning IP owners can continue to file international design applications.
Not only is this part of the recognition of the importance of designs but will give creators of designs greater flexibility in how to register their international designs. It may result in lower costs of design registrations and offer time-efficiency. This may also prompt non-UK owners of designs to register such designs in the UK.
