Laurens is a final-seat trainee undertaking a secondment with the Insolvency and Asset Recovery team at Grant Thornton. His remit primarily covers high value insolvency, fraud, and investigations on an international level, where he works closely with the corporate intelligence team and Grant Thornton’s Asset Recovery Fund.
Laurens’ first seat was in the corporate team, where he assisted on M&A, financing, and start-ups. His second seat was in the restructuring and insolvency team, where he primarily assisted on contentious insolvency matters, which included bringing claims on behalf of office holders against company directors for misfeasance, wrongful or fraudulent trading, TUVs, and preferences. Laurens sat in the litigation team for his third seat, where he assisted on a range of matters, including fraud litigation, money laundering investigations, breaches of directors’ duties, group claims, and general commercial disputes.
Laurens studied Scots law at The University of Edinburgh before making the transition to English law, and is a keen member of the firm’s football team. He also co-manages the firm’s pro bono initiative.
