In the case of Villiers vs Villiers, the couple disagree as to whether their money disputes should be presented in an English or Scottish court. The aristocrat Charles Villiers believes that as divorce proceedings are being dealt with in Scotland, any arguments over money should follow suit. However, as his estranged wife now lives in England she disagrees.

John Darnton, consultant in BDB Pitmans’ family and matrimonial team, discusses this case in an article for PA Media, commenting:

‘”Divorce tourism” is commonplace amongst wealthy international couples but litigating over which country deals with finances can be massively expensive and stressful’.
