Charities’ wrongs – can we trust the law to correct them?

The exposure of sexual abuse and corruption in the charity sector has been widely reported and eyes are on the law and whether this can remedy what has gone wrong. The issue of jurisdiction is an obstacle facing legal follow-ups to misconduct in disaster zones. Penny Chapman, head of our charity law team, explains in The Times how in the case of the Charity Commission, the trustees of the ‘parent’ charity registered with the Charity Commission have the legal and regulatory power over their workers and funds.
