Is the Pensions Regulator too reactive?
Channel 5 recently highlighted Britain’s ‘savings time bomb’ in their documentary ‘Britain’s Great Pension Crisis’, which has led many to ask the question, ‘Can it really be this bad?’
There are many issues that are being raised regarding pensions, including the role of the Pensions Regulator, whose powers will likely increase due to the Pensions Bill.
Lee Colgate, legal director in BDB Pitmans’ pensions team, comments on this particular issue in an article for The Times:
‘The feeling among many lawyers is that the regulator is too reactive in the use of its existing powers, taking action after the damage has been done’.
