Home / News and Insights / Press / Italian fashion empire boss waits for London ruling in divorce fight

Ferruccio Ferragamo, the boss of Italian fashion empire Salvatore Ferragamo, is undergoing divorce proceedings with his estranged wife, Ilaria Giusti.

The ex-couple married in Italy, however are at odds as to whether judges in England or Italy should make the decisions following their marriage breakdown.

Isobel Mundy, senior associate in BDB Pitmans’ family and matrimonial team, comments on the case in an article by the Press Association:

‘The place where the divorce petition is first issued usually determines jurisdiction for financial matters – so if the husband issued the divorce petition first in Italy, it will be tremendously difficult to overturn the first instance decision. The “first past the post” system operates between countries across the European Union. Since London is known for being extremely generous to wives, however, it would explain why Ms Giusti has taken the matter to the Court of Appeal.’
