Marriage rate hits a record low

The marriage rate of opposite sex couples was the lowest on record in 2018. In total, there were 234,795 marriages in 2018, a decreased of 3.3 percent from 2017. Per 1,000 men, 20.1 were unmarried, while per 1,000 women, 18.6 were unmarried. Since 1972, the annual number of opposite-sex marriages has fallen by 46.5 percent.
