NSIP Action plan: Government unveils plan to speed up major infrastructure approval
In an article for Building Magazine, legal director Mustafa Latif-Aramesh comments on the government’s new NSIP (Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project) Action Plan, designed to streamline planning processes for major infrastructure projects.
Empowering secretaries of state to set shorter timelines for off-shore wind, waste-water management facilities and transport link projects, the cross-department project seeks to decrease the length of time it takes for projects to be awarded Development Consent Orders (DCOs), expediting the drive toward energy security.
If the Government is serious about expediting end to end delivery, it will be important that reduced timescales and proportionality during one phase do not simply mean increased timescales and burden at an earlier stage. In that context, those who were expecting more proportionate measures on early consultation will be disappointed.’
