ONS 2023 statistics on families and households in the UK
A recent report by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) has revealed a 42% increase in the number of families in the UK, which has been attributed to opposite-sex couples co-habiting without children.
In a articles for the Daily Mail and The Times, senior associate William Roberts-Phelps, comments:
‘Today’s statistics once again confirm that the traditional married family remains the most prevalent family structure, but it is no longer the default option, with many more couples choosing to cohabit.
‘As confirmed by the ONS today, there are more adults under 34 living at home with parents than ever before. Couple this with the rising costs of living and it is not a surprise to see marriage rates continuing to slow.
‘Perhaps many younger couples are having to prioritise reaching the housing ladder over the costs of a wedding.’
