Mustafa Latif-Aramesh
Partner and Parliamentary Agent

This week, the release of funding from the UK government to allow the construction of small and advanced nuclear reactors marked a watershed moment for nuclear in the UK, paving the way for the UK to meet its decarbonisation targets.

In an article for CityAM, partner and parliamentary agent Mustafa Latif-Aramesh discusses the wider planning reforms that are still required to streamline the process, drawing on France as a model that the UK should emulate.

‘The announcement should be accompanied by confirmation on the Great British Nuclear’s remit in being a partner at the development phase. Government should throw resources at updating the National Policy Statement for nuclear in advance of their 2025 target, and explicitly confirming that projects outside of existing or decommissioned can progress so that the private sector can deliver clean energy in tandem with GBN’s competition processes.’

The full feature can be accessed in CityAM‘s online magazine.
