Shared parental leave is beginning to make its mark on the property industry
In 2015 the Government passed a legislation for shared parental leave, however, as the scheme only pays £145.18 per week, only 1% of those eligible took it in 2018. Many companies have since started to try and make shared parental leave more appealing. For example, real estate firm CBRE have now allowed those who have worked for them for six months to two years to receive three months enhanced shared parental leave (ESPL) pay, and those who have worked for the company continuously for more than two years are now eligible to receive six months full pay.
Nicholas Le Riche, partner in BDB Pitmans’ employment team, comments on this in an article for Property Week. He states that many in the sector see the need to do more.
‘It tends to be slightly more traditional. Property firms can be perceived as more male-orientated and less family friendly. A lot of my clients see that this has to change.’
