Stonehenge road tunnel survives High Court challenge

The High Court has dismissed a bid challenging the permission for survey work to be carried out near Stonehenge. The work itself relates to plans for a new road tunnel that National Highways have proposed since 2018 to replace the A303 single carriageway, a notorious traffic blackspot. The bid tried to challenge the work on the grounds that a government agency used the wrong legal powers to gain access to the land, forcing landowners to allow their land to be surveyed.
Angus Walker, Partner in BDB Pitmans’ planning, infrastructure and public law team, comments on this in an article for the Planning magazine.
