Vattenfall pauses major Norfolk offshore wind farm as costs climb higher
This week, it was announced by Energy developer Vattenfall that they are pausing work on their offshore windfarm in the UK, attributing it to a 40% increase in offshore wind costs.
In articles for New Civil Engineer and Edie, partner Angus Walker comments on the halting of work on the windfarm, which would have formed a major part of the UK’s major renewable energy projects:
‘”Planning” is often blamed for delays but there are many other reasons, as in this case. Given the government’s challenging target of 50GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 this also demonstrates that a much greater pipeline than 50GW is needed as some projects will fall by the wayside.’
