When a surveyor misses subsidence risk what can be done?

A reader of the Financial Times has discovered that their recently purchased house is sinking, despite having contracted a surveyor to carry out the highest level of survey, which found the property to be in excellent condition.
Many house purchasers have found themselves in a similar position, however, there is the possibility to bring a claim against surveyors that have missed the risk of subsidence.
Simon Painter, partner in BDB Pitmans’ litigation team, discusses how to go about this, including contracting an independent surveyor and obtaining a report from a valuer.
