Home / News and Insights / Press / Assessing pending Supreme Court verdict in a Surrey oil field case

Situated a few miles north of Gatwick Airport in Surrey, Horse Hill is a field at the centre of a court case that could change the shape of planning applications in the UK.

Now awaiting a ruling from the Supreme Court, Finch vs Surrey County Council revolves around the fact that the environmental impact assessment submitted to the council included the direct emissions report but did not include the indirect emissions of the development.

Commenting in an article for Property Week, partner Angus Walker doubts that the Supreme Court has made any special dispensation in the case of Horse Hill, stating:

‘I would not put any delay down to special features of this case – all cases that reach the Supreme Court are complex and need clarity.’
