Introducing International Insights
We started the ‘International Ownership of UK Property’ blog in February 2014 following the introduction of ATED and ATED-related CGT, and in response to the announcement of a new CGT charge on foreign owners of UK residential property. In the intervening four years the blog has been fuelled by the implications of these changes, as well as a succession of further developments affecting owners of UK residential property.
We will still cover relevant property-related topics such as the proposed register detailing ownership of UK property by overseas persons and the inclusion of gains on all UK commercial property and land within the scope of UK tax from 6 April 2019.
Going forward, however, we are expanding the remit of the blog to include wider issues affecting international individuals, their families and their trusts, though still with a UK focus. To reflect the change in scope, we have renamed the series ‘International Insights’.
As well as covering the implications of the latest tax changes we will therefore be looking at areas such as the practical impact of the move towards global tax transparency, immigration, cross-border succession, matrimonial, trust law matters and tax compliance.
