PSNI data breach explained: What the FOI ‘leak’ means for the security of the police in Northern Ireland
Last week, the names and ranks of all of the serving police officers in The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) were publicly released in a major data breach, sparking concern among officers for their safety.
In an article for iNews, associate Daisy Fulton looks at the position of the officers in question and considers whether they can bring legal action against the PSNI.
Daisy Fulton states:
‘Individuals have the right to claim compensation against an organisation (like PSNI) which breaches data protection law… The amount of the compensation will depend on how serious the breach is and the impact on the police officers.’
