Number of employment tribunal cases continues to rise

Employment disputes have continually increased over the past two years, since tribunal fees were deemed to be unlawful and subsequently abolished. Claims issued in the employment tribunal by both single individuals and multiple claimants have risen by 6 per cent and 13 per cent respectively.
In a recent article, The Times asked a number of legal experts about this increase.
Brian Gegg, partner in BDB Pitmans’ employment team explains that the latest statistics showed that employees:
‘Are becoming more prepared to issue claims whilst at the same time tribunals are under increased pressure in dealing with them. Employers clearly need to be mindful of how to structure workplace changes given that employees appear to be more litigious than in recent times.’
